about

This is the first song I've ever recorded with someone elses lyric.
Lyric written as a shanty/poem by Gary Jones in 1988, many thanks Gary for sending them to me, I had a lot of fun writing and recording this little ditty :)

lyrics

Well, seafaring men all over the world they like to sing their songs.
On a moonlit night on a dead calm sea
where the words all come out wrong.
Away away you Johnny lad, life on the ocean is hard,
but sometimes it's not so bad.

Now these old salts they sing their songs
of the lassies they've left behind.
They think of them far too much that most of them are blind.
Away away you Johnny lad, life on the ocean is fun,
but soon it will make you sad.

And on the docks they gather round to sing their little ditties.
They dream of girlies so far away, and all of those great big cities.
Away away with you Johnny lad, life on the ocean is wet,
but soon it will make you sad.

They set their sails and think ahead of countries yet to come.
And the cabin boy he looks so sweet, when a sailor turns to rum.
Away away you Johnny lad, life on the ocean is queer,
but sometimes it will make you glad.
Away away you Johnny lad, life on the ocean is hard,
but sometimes it's not so bad.

Away away you Johnny lad, away away you go.
